Thermodynamic Solar Energy 

Every panel is made from high performance anodised aluminium with a sokolote selective covering that guarantees prevention and protection for the panel from any oxidization or corrosion. These panels are advanced in thermal technology and will increase in popularity.   

Thermodynamic solar panels are less expensive to install than solar PV or thermal panels. One other attraction that makes thermodynamic panels stand out is that it doesn’t require the sun. Its energy efficiency is similar and can operate in under difficult weather types such as rain and snow. Thermodynamic panels use renewable energy resources therefore it is environmentally friendly and doesn’t release any carbon emissions

The majority of households demand hot water the most in the morning and evenings. Solar thermal panels require sunlight to heat up the water and the panel doesn’t see the sun in those required times. Thermodynamic panels work 24/7. They will heat up the water overnight so that the water is ready to use in the morning and continue throughout the day.

Solar thermal system’s doesn’t operate efficiently when the temperature is below 0 Celsius plus normally at these temperatures there’s no sunlight. Thermodynamic panels operate in all weather conditions such as rain, wind and snow therefore they will generate hot water for your home all year round.

Thermodynamic systems are around 6 times more efficient than solar thermal systems and they do not have any of the problems associated with leaks or corrosion. 

How Does Thermodynamic Solar Panels Work?
Thermodynamic solar panels absorb heat from their surroundings such as sun, rain and wind. Inside the panel there is a circulation of an ecological fluid at a negative temperature that permits it to collect a greater amount of solar power and energy. This collection of energy and heat is then released into the fluid by a heat exchanger.  As the fluids temperature increases, it will begin to evaporate and transform into gas. There is glass within the panels allowing the gas to increase the heat exchange through convection.

The fluid is then sucked by a compressor causing pressure and again increasing the temperature. This heat generated is transferred to the water through a heat exchanger. An expansion in the fluid must take place before it can return to the panel. This expansion decreases the pressure surrounding the fluid and for the gas to transform back into liquid form.

Installing thermodynamic solar panels are simple. The average size of a panel is 2 meters long and 0.8 meters wide. The panel also absorbs the energy on both sides of the panel.

What makes thermodynamic panels stand out over solar PV and thermal systems is that they can operate all year round in all weather conditions. Solar PV and thermal rely on sunlight where as thermodynamics can operate in all condition whether it’s a beautiful sunny day or a freezing snow day.

Advantages
1. Require less electricity to run than an air source heat pump;
2. No noisy external fan
3. Panels will work day and night in most weather conditions;
4. Can be installed in various locations, mounted on a wall, flat roof or on the ground, but better in direct sunlight if possible;
5. No corrosion and virtually no maintenance needed
6. Low-carbon technology and could qualify for the Renewable Heat Incentive (but see note below) 

Disadvantages (What they don't tell you)
Supplementary immersion heater required to recharge hot water tank rapidly, or to supply hot water at temperatures over 55°C, especially in winter, and to combat legionnaire's disease if water is not drawn off for prolonged periods;
1. Noise from compressor - similar to that from a refrigerator;
2. Takes several hours to heat 200 litres of water from cold
3. Unlikely to be cost-effective compared to mains gas

Thermodynamic panels and the RHI
Thermodynamic panels are not eligible for payments under the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. According to DECC this is because there is no 'established methodology to test and demonstrate their performance'. However, MCS is working with manufacturers to define standards, which may result in these products becoming eligible for RHI in future.
