Fair share
At fairshare we rescue good food that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it to other charities, benefiting vulnerable people and the planet 5.8 million people in the UK live in ' deep poverty' and cannot afford everyday essentials such as food.FareShare has a unique mission: to fight hunger and its underlying causes by redistributing surplus food to hundreds of local charities across the UK. By ensuring good food is not wasted, we turn an environmental problem into a solution, helping to feed thousands of vulnerable people every day
FareShare secures surplus food through its partnerships with the food industry and then delivers it to more than 1,200 charities and community projects across the UK, helping to feed 62,200 people a day. The majority of these charities and projects cook the food they receive on site so that they can provide vital and nutritious meals to vulnerable individuals, families and children. By receiving food from FareShare our charity partners save an average of £13,000 per year, money which is then reinvested into vital support services such as counselling.

Our plans
2014 FareShare finds itself at a unique point in its journey. In the year that we celebrate ten years of operating independently from Crisis, we face a time of growth and change.
Our three-year plan outlines the following key areas for development over the coming years:
Securing the food
We need to ensure that we manage our relationships with the food industry so that they continue to see us as a key partner in the management of their surplus food. We must maximize our chances of retaining a sustainable source of surplus food.
Redistributing the food available
In order to ensure that the food we receive gets to as many beneficiaries as possible, the FareShare network must change and develop. We will be adopting a regional approach to ensure that our coverage becomes as wide as possible across the UK. We will be introducing collection services both from our existing depots and from remote spokes that will be established in areas we currently don't reach.
Developing a more sustainable network
We will work with our network of depots to refresh relationships with the charities we supply whilst developing food streams that match their needs. We will grow the numbers of charities we work with to help our depots move towards greater financial sustainability.
Increasing our investment in compliance and standards
We will be working hard to maintain our current high compliance standards, something that makes our model unique - providing the food industry with the level of trust they need to supply us with their food. Our auditing processes will be continuously reviewed whilst new ones will be developed to support the use of cool boxes for our collection services.
Being a well-run, values-based, highly respected organisation
In order to achieve our ambitious growth we must work hard to secure the voluntary and earned income required, retaining relationships with a range of donors and across different activities. We will review the technology we use including: our website, our online food management and customer relationships management systems. We will also remain committed to the recruitment and retention of the best staff and volunteer teams possible.
